For Students
Four hours a session, twice a week, for eight weeks. If someone told you it was easy they were selling you something.
Every session starts with you saying what you actually did since last time. Including the parts you did not do.
Nobody gets told off for it. But nobody gets to skip the question either.
There are five of you. That is small enough that you cannot hide at the back, and small enough that when you are stuck someone notices in about a minute.
Not your parents. Not the coach. You decide what you are doing and you say it out loud to the group.
That is uncomfortable the first time and it is the reason the whole thing works.
One idea we come back to
You do not control your mark. You control whether you started, and whether you did the work you said you would.
If you measure yourself only by the number at the end, you are handing your self-worth to something that can go badly on a day you did everything right. Measure the process instead. The marks tend to follow anyway.
We named this after a figure skater who talks about her own training this way. She has never heard of us — the idea is just a good one.
If you are already organised, already starting things without being asked, and already know where you are heading — you do not need this and we will say so.
It is for you if you keep meaning to start and it keeps not happening. If you have decided you are just not a school person. If you are behind and it has got to the point where you would rather not think about it.
None of that is a character flaw. It is a set of habits, and habits are trainable.
